Through a few house moves with my family over the past few years, I have discovered a few things. First, I've pretty much mastered the art of efficient packing and unpacking. (But this still does not take away from how exhausting it is though!!) Second, we definitely had accumulated a lot of duplicate items over the years - some of which I wasn't quite ready to part ways with yet. So... This the first of a few posts, I hope, about ways to repurpose and reincorporate things we already have, when we're not quite ready to rehome them at the moment. Please note: This is not an excuse to be a hoarder!! I am not giving you permission to keep everything you've ever owned forever, in hopes of the "one day" when you can repurpose it. If it makes sense to give it away or sell it now, than just do it. Remember, having too much STUFF is not always a good thing! Anyway in the video, you'll see that I'm demonstrating ways of converting letter or mail dividers, into practical storage and displays for both the kitchen and closet. First, for help corralling those storage container lids in the kitchen... Next, to display plates or dinnerware for entertaining... :) Lastly, in the closet, as way to help see those small purses, wallets, and clutches a little better! So 'shopping your home" (like I did here) every once in a while, can be a excellent way of not only rediscovering new ways for new things, but also as a way of cutting down on unnecessary clutter in your home or storage, right? If this is your goal, read about more ideas here about how make minimizing and organizing a little less painless— especially if you’re like me right now and NEED to keep it as simple as possible! :)

I don't know about you, but when things around me are mostly organized and clean, I feel less- stressed and a lot more relaxed. It seems as though I can even think a little clearer. However, one misconception of a closet clean-out or edit in particular, is that you will be forced to throw everything away and start from scratch (like on the now retired series "What Not to Wear") Not true! Yes, it probably will involve parting with some things, but there is usually a lot more that you can do with what is left. Those are the things that work for you toward a versatile wardrobe or home, however minimal or expansive you desire it to be. Other benefits? You can find things much faster. For my closet I do this (and also advise my clients): Organize hanging items by color (shirts and tops if nothing else) to help eliminate frustrating searches for those things you know you have, but where is it?? But it’s not limited just to your closet. Organizing smartly helps you locate things in other areas too when you need them, and when it fits your decor style, can make you feel a whole lot better about coming or staying home ;) Also, a lot of organization products are designed to be space savers, especially important for small closets or spaces. With a product from my neighborhood Target designed for college dorm living, I have at one time converted a single rod closet into a double hanging one in mere minutes, without even using a drill! There are great solutions out there for both temporary and permanent fixes. In conclusion, do not be afraid to edit or reorganize in your home- and try to reevaluate at least once a year. Trust me, at the end you'll wonder why you didn’t do it sooner, especially after a life transition or if your goals change. Now if you're a self-starter and want to stop putting it off once and for all, I can guide you through your very own edit — and it’s completely virtual. 2-3 sessions is all it takes for a little more relaxation in your life.
