I don't know about you, but when things around me are mostly organized and clean, I feel less- stressed and a lot more relaxed. It seems as though I can even think a little clearer. However, one misconception of a closet clean-out or edit in particular, is that you will be forced to throw everything away and start from scratch (like on the now retired series "What Not to Wear") Not true! Yes, it probably will involve parting with some things, but there is usually a lot more that you can do with what is left. Those are the things that work for you toward a versatile wardrobe or home, however minimal or expansive you desire it to be. Other benefits? You can find things much faster. For my closet I do this (and also advise my clients): Organize hanging items by color (shirts and tops if nothing else) to help eliminate frustrating searches for those things you know you have, but where is it?? But it’s not limited just to your closet. Organizing smartly helps you locate things in other areas too when you need them, and when it fits your decor style, can make you feel a whole lot better about coming or staying home ;) Also, a lot of organization products are designed to be space savers, especially important for small closets or spaces. With a product from my neighborhood Target designed for college dorm living, I have at one time converted a single rod closet into a double hanging one in mere minutes, without even using a drill! There are great solutions out there for both temporary and permanent fixes. In conclusion, do not be afraid to edit or reorganize in your home- and try to reevaluate at least once a year. Trust me, at the end you'll wonder why you didn’t do it sooner, especially after a life transition or if your goals change. Now if you're a self-starter and want to stop putting it off once and for all, I can guide you through your very own edit — and it’s completely virtual. 2-3 sessions is all it takes for a little more relaxation in your life. You can learn more about my Virtual Closet Cleanses here! So do you notice a difference when the surroundings around you are calmer? Are you calmer?
